Or you could avoid putting your card where it can be easily accessed. A metal case, protective sleeve or even some aluminium foil will prevent a device’s signals from reaching the card. While you still have a contactless card, however, there is a more low-tech way of protecting your money. When the scanning device comes into close proximity to the RFID-enabled card, it captures the data stored on the cards chip. These devices create their own “near field communication” signals that are switched off when not being used to prevent accidental or unauthorised payments. ![]() One way of making contactless payments more secure would be to move to an active technology (as opposed to the passive chips) such as that found in smartphones or other devices that run programs such as Apple Pay or Android Pay. Possibly one of the most dangerous tactics implemented to steal credit card information is the use of electronic pickpocketing devices. A typical setup our clients use is to send the encrypted information over HTTPS to their back end and decrypt the data there for further processing. Banks set a limit on the number and value of transactions that can be made via contactless payment and repeated payments are forbidden. The best smart wallets can help prevent electronic pickpocketing, and some options have built-in holders where you can add a tracking device. Of course it is safe to use :) We use RSA 2048 bit encryption with keys unique to each application and provide only encrypted information. ![]() The chip on the card generates a unique coded message (cryptogram) and digital signatures to protect the payment from being intercepted. ![]() ShutterstockĬontactless cards do come with built-in security.
